WING
BY WERNER AISSLINGER
FOR LEMA
The Wing chair has a decidedly modern image, inspired explicitly by some design classics of the twentieth century (in particular, the DU 30 model designed for Rima in 1954 by Gastone Rinaldi). The shell is formed by a pair of thin sheets of oak wood, shaped and joined along the median axis to form a characteristic "petal" shape. The broad profile of the shell softens the design and at the same time increases the sitting comfort. On the back of the chair, close to the centerline, a "backbone" of solid wood is grafted whose thickness is significant since it has the function of connecting and supporting the two parts of the shell, thus giving structural strength. The base is formed by four thin steel legs, which taper up and converge on the central section, thus enhancing the overall idea of lightness. Categorized as a lounge chair, Wing is produced in versions with the shell in natural oak or charcoal stained oak, and legs in black painted metal.
