URBAN DESIGN FOR TILE
BY ANDREA BRANCIFORTI
FOR SGARLATA EMANUELE & C.
Stone decorative coating made of lava stone
mined in Sicily on the slopes of Mount Etna. This is a
durable material which by its nature can sustain
considerable temperatures while preserving both its
technical and aesthetic characteristics. Through a
search for the graphic signs that the city offers, the
product aims to re-present material and traditional
processes in a contemporary style. The texture is
created through a process of hand-crafted ceramic enamel
screen printing in order to create a raised texture, thus
resulting in a waterproof surface in which both the basalt
material and the graphics acquire an unusual consistency.
