Laid out over 480 pages and enriched by 400 colour images, the Cromorama volume presents a well-developed essay on the history and theory of colour as applied to the arts and design from cinema to painting and from literature to comics and everyday objects. Through cultural histories and linguistic contributions, the book examines the pervasive, communicative and symbolic meanings and qualities of the chromatic universe, investigating the propensity of each society for the construction of large-scale symbols shared through the use of colour. On a theoretical level the essay deals in particular with different aspects of the dynamics according to which contemporary technologies and the market have appropriated ancestral chromatic perceptions and directed them towards new meanings.
