OVERCROWDED – DESIGNING MEANINGFUL PRODUCTS IN A WORLD AWASH WITH IDEAS
BY POLITECNICO DI MILANO – ROBERTO VERGANTI
FOR THE MIT PRESS
The book offers a new approach to innovation, not aiming at solving existing problems but rather finding meaningful experiences. Instead of the traditional method of brainstorming, which in the author’s vision produces too many un-filtered ideas, a critical and interpretative approach is proposed. A similar process starts from a vision and then proceeds through a critical analysis of its possible development, first by a “sparring partner”, then by a circle of thinkers, then by external experts and interpreters and only then by users. The text thus investigates the work done by major companies including Nest Labs, Apple, Yankee Candle and Philips Healthcare which through such a method have developed important innovative projects and thereby increased corporate value.
