Moroso World’s Travel Guide
BY FERRUCCIO MONTANARI
FOR MOROSO
How do you illustrate your own references? How do you make a list of the innumerable objects that you’ve created that are now all over the world? By writing a travelogue, a “cahier de croquis”, in which you list all the places where the incredibile number of “Made in Italy” furniture and furnishings have ended up. In its Moroso World’s Travel Guide, the Friuli company tells the story of how its products, after having reached the four corners of the globe, have become the main players in some rather special situations. Every place mentioned in the journey is described with photos, maps, sketches and short articles (sometimes written in the language of the country visited). The journey begins in Venice, then, passing through Cavalicco obviously (the company’s head quarters in Udine), and arrives at New York City, JFK Airport. (Saarinen started designing the TWA terminal in 1952, the same year that the Moroso company started.) After the American legs of the trip, the flight moves on to Asia and Australia, the Middle East and North Africa, and eventually touches down in Europa, where the list of places visited gets longer and longer. The final stages are reserved for cruise ships, where Moroso designed-furniture has had a presence for decades. The final pages are a sort of product summary, from a complete list of references to biographies of the designers, who, together with their projects, have all taken part in this adventure.
