The idea of beauty as the genesis of the relationship between light and shadow, as depicted in the famous Book of Shadow written by Jun'ichiro Tanizaki, inspires a dynamic collection of ceramic tiles that play with the different physical and conceptual dimensions. As in the traditional Japanese art of origami, the surfaces of the Light+M tiles are "animated" by gentle folding, an idea taken from a Miura-ori drawing created by the scientist Koryo Miura. The ridges and valleys that form on the walls produce unexpected and surprising effects of light and shadow that change continuously according to the way the tiles are laid, and also on the changing position of the light source that illuminates them. In the author’s design vision, the tiles have four dimensions: to the three determined by the transition from the state of surface to volume, a fourth is added, the "light dimension", brought about by the perception of the changes that are continuously produced over time. The rationale behind the design of the folds also has a second interpretation: the assumed profile of the tiles in fact reduces the amount of material needed to achieve them, helping to reduce the impact of production on the environment and the price at which the product is offered. There is a wide range of colour options available.
