The son of a Vercelli nobleman, after graduating in Fine Arts and with the qualification of Master Goldsmith in 1856, Giuseppe Sambonet established the Giuseppe Sambonet company, registering a punch with the initials "GS" at the Turin Mint. It was the beginning of a unique story, marked by memorable milestones - such as the development in 1938 of an innovative process for the production of stainless steel cutlery and a technique for silver-plating steel - which led to the Sambonet brand and products becoming famous throughout the world. The status of this unique symbol is enhanced by the Le Tavole Sambonet catalogue: a project that investigates and represents the art of table setting as a cultural and symbolic gesture linked to ancient and well established traditions, but not devoid of creativity and imagination. The stunning layout of the volume is clear from the first few pages, with an image of the famous steel Sambonet fork and, on the opposite page, a boiled egg, with the quote: "What makes the fork most proud is the beating of an egg, since it is something extra that is not part of its normal duties" (Ramon Gomez de la Serna). In the following pages images and aphorisms alternate, sometimes ironic and sometimes even kitsch, the result of the fantastic imagination of the photographer Maria Vittoria Backhaus and the stylist Sergio Colantuoni.
