EDIZIONI PRECARIE
BY CARMELA DACCHILLE
FOR EDIZIONI PRECARIE
Experimental publishing project that
presents a traditional folk tale selected by the Palermo
research centre “Fiabe e Narrazioni” and illustrated by
Nina Melan. A story about the sea, like the special cover
made from the wrapping paper used by the fishmongers
at the Capo market. Small volumes whose intention is to
suggest a journey through the historical markets of
Palermo, an experience created through the use of pieces
of writing paper with a variety of textures and colours, old
prints featuring tuna or swordfish, handmade book bindings
and printing blocks. The pieces of paper, used to wrap
meat, fruit and cheese, are re-used as writing paper to wrap
thoughts, writings and drawings and to maintain their
freshness. A play on words and meanings that serve to
capture the attention, to engage the senses and make us
think. The project stems from the desire to imbue a small
object with the identity and authenticity of the local
markets. A precarious reality, constantly changing and full
of beauty that should be carefully looked after; the beauty
of tradition, of little details.
