Advancing age often leads to a reduction in the perception of the need to drink, a phenomenon that predisposes the elderly to dehydration thus constituting one of the common causes of numerous sometimes severe health problems, from a simple headache to hypertension and even up to senile dementia. The Drink-Top project was conceived as an answer to these problems: an innovative electronic universal bottle top that helps to maintain constant hydration throughout the day. Compatible with the screw thread found on water bottles currently available on the market, Drink-Top can easily replace the standard top. Tightening it turns on an electronic device which emits a series of visual and aural signals at regular intervals that remind the patient or user to drink. Each time the Drink-Top is unscrewed, the electronic device is turned off and reset, but if it is not untwisted or removed, the visual signal remains on, and after ninety minutes it repeats the sound signal. The top part of the cap, which is made of translucent HDPE, contains a pair of blue LEDs, while the base, in the same material but with a matte finish, is grooved to provide a better grip. Powered by two CR2032 batteries, Drink-Top does not require programming.
