Designed to facilitate the mutual interaction between the worlds of industrial design and small and medium-sized enterprises, the Desire project has as its main objective the organization of an experimental program aimed at the development of innovative products which are attentive to the issue of environmental sustainability. The process of shared planning and technology transfer involving three different manufacturing sectors (cutlery for Maniago, glasses for Longarone, and furniture for Carinzia). The designers’ culture, knowledge, techniques, and methodologies provided a constant support to the companies involved ranging from market analysis, product design and development to communication. Among the results of the project was the creation of two volumes: an essay in critical research on the history of design from the 1950s to the present day and a manual on eco-design. Co-financed by the Interreg IV Italia-Austria 2007-2013 program (Cross Border Cooperation Programme Italy-Austria 2007-2013), the Desire project had Agemont Technological Innovation Centre (lead partner), Certottica, Italian Institute for the certification of optical products, Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt and Institut für Technik und Wissenschaftsforschung, Standort Graz (IFZ) as organizing partners.
