For centuries the name Uffizi has represented the Italian Renaissance and together with the Corridoio Vasariano, the Palazzo Pitti and the Boboli Gardens, today constitutes the largest Florentine museum system. On this basis the Uffizi Galleries have undertaken a process of visual accreditation capable of making them unique, recognizable and legally protected. The relative design of the communication has thus led to the re-using of intrinsic values found in the history and in the genius loci of the place, generating a composite but unitary sign: a sort of monogram that condenses the Renaissance use of lettering, the golden section and the pedestrian arcades of Vasarian architecture. Together with the sign, the project has produced a format, a pattern, a set of typographic and chromatic codes, a brand architecture that constitute the signs of the institution’s developing language.
