COUNTERBALANCE
BY DANIEL RYBAKKEN
FOR LUCEPLAN
The Counterbalance adjustable wall lamp is designed as an essential mobile sculpture, consisting of apparently 'unbalanced' elements which seem to defy the laws of physics. The central element of the project consists of a balancing system: the aluminum head that houses the light source is supported by a long (190 cm) straight steel arm balanced by a calibrated counterweight, a special toothed gearwheel device controls the balance and movements of the two elements, allowing variations in the position of the lamp and direction of the light. The technopolymer gears ensure fluid and continuous movements: the arm (and consequently the light source) moves easily and at any vertical and horizontal angle, both in extreme positions and even crossing over the counterweight itself. The light source also rotates, thus giving the possibility of obtaining an indirect light with an infinite number of configurations. The use of a high efficiency LED source directly connected to the mains network means that the use of a low-voltage transformer is not necessary. The black painted finish version enhances the essential purity of the elements.
