Both in its name and its formal expression the Torii living room coffee table can be seen to have been explicitly inspired by the Orient: in actual fact Torii is the traditional Japanese access portal that leads to a Shinto shrine or more simply to a sacred area. Every element of the design points to an idea of lightness, starting with the extremely thin top made of a 3 mm thick ceramic sheet and ending with the slender metal legs. The structural solution makes the image of the table appear even lighter since it provides a central support for the top which seems detached from the legs and floats in the air. Torii is available in a number of different sizes and in two heights, which also allow an interplay of joints and functional overlaps.
